|Job Detail:||The City of Roswell, Georgia is seeking a Director of Recreation, Parks, Historic and Cultural Affairs. Roswell is located about 20 miles from Downtown Atlanta and is the eighth largest City in Georgia. Roswell offers a rich artistic and cultural history with community events throughout the year that draw visitors from around metro Atlanta including, Alive in Roswell, Roswell Roots Festival, Roswell Arts Festival, Riverside Sounds Concert Series and an annual July 4th Fireworks Extravaganza. The City also provides four historic homes and over 900 acres of green space for public use and enjoyment. Roswell received the 2017 National Gold Medal Award for Excellence in Park and Recreation Management; 2017 Live, Work & Play City Award from the Ga. Municipal Association, and Best Place to Live in Metro Atlanta award from Atlanta Magazine; Roswell is a safe community with a strong sense of family and easy place to call home.
This Director manages the daily operations of the department, oversees comprehensive, quality programs and services which meet the arts, recreation, historic and cultural needs and interests of the community. This position will include supervising and directing departmental staff, implementing programs and services in accordance with the Master Plan, developing comprehensive master plans for parks, maintaining partnerships with other departments and agencies and directing construction and maintenance of departmental resources. The new Director should be a person of vision and demonstrated success in strategic planning and leadership in a department of similar complexity and program diversity as Roswell.
The successful candidate will have a Bachelor’s degree in recreation administration, public administration or closely related field from an accredited college or university; Master’s degree preferred; with a minimum of seven years of progressively responsible experience managing recreation programs, staff and resources; or any equivalent combination of education, training, and experience. Certification as a Park & Recreation Professional by the National Recreation & Parks Assn. is required; certification as a Park & Recreation Executive is preferred.
Starting salary is expected to be in the range of $105,000-$130,000 depending on the qualifications and experience of the selected candidate.
