Job Detail: Purpose of Position:
The purpose of this position is to assist in the organization and supervision of the day-to-day operation of a summer camp program. Reports to the Summer Camp Director. The chosen candidate shall oversee the welfare and safety of the campers and will assist in the hiring of qualified counselors; organizing and planning field trips, designating responsibilities and supervising the counselors, and handling discipline of campers when necessary.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

The following duties are normal for this position. These are not to be construed as exclusive or all-inclusive.

Acts as camp director in the absence of camp director

Assists director in staff training and evaluation including mid and final performance reviews and supervises assigned staff; plans, organizes, and facilitates weekly staff meetings; schedules counselors and assigns daily duties; assists supervisor in preparation of bi-weekly time reports; handles disciplinary problems as necessary

Ensures that all staff and campers adhere to the policies and procedures set forth by the Parks and Recreation Department and other applicable policies

Assists director in coordinating logistical set-up and clean-up of camp including group area/location assignment and schedule; monitors cleanliness of facility and ensures that routine daily cleaning is performed by staff

Assists director with field trip planning and coordination as needed; plans age-appropriate games, crafts, and activities for campers ages 6-12

Prepares accident/incident reports as needed and follows established procedures for reporting accidents/incidents; handles medical, safety and severe weather emergencies per the procedures noted in the camp staff manual and during in-service training; completes needed reports and submits them to the appropriate party

Schedules and conducts parent conferences as needed; maintains positive relationships with parents, campers, and staff

Assists director in keeping financial payment and attendance records for each week of camp

Minimum Training and Experience:

High School Diploma or GED equivalent supplemented by one to two years previous experience and/or training that includes supervision in a camp environment; or any equivalent combination of education and specialized training which provides the necessary knowledge, skills, and abilities for this position. Must possess or acquire the following certifications: Standard First Aid and CPR/AED (American Heart Association or American Red Cross). The City of Chamblee will offer First Aid and CPR/AED training to the selected candidate. Certifications must be valid through the employment period. Teacher certification is preferred. Computer skills a plus. Must have a valid Georgia Driver\\\\\\\'s License. Successful completion of a pre-employment drug screening required. Works required evening, weekend, and holiday hours. Must be available all weeks of camp, training and post-camp.
