Job Detail: Purpose of Position:
The purpose of this position is to supervise, teach, and instruct youth in various games, arts and crafts, and leisure skills in a camp environment. Reports to the Summer Camp Director and Recreation Coordinator.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

The following duties are normal for this position. These are not to be construed as exclusive or all-inclusive.

Provides leadership, guidance, and opportunities that are educational and recreational in a fun, safe, structured learning environment

Performs duties associated with summer camp including supervising assigned campers, preventing accidents by enforcing camp policies and rules, and communicating policies and rules to campers

Leads and instructs games, crafts, and activities appropriate to assigned group of campers and as directed by supervisor; participates in planning and implementing activities as directed by supervisor

Assists in coordinating the logistical set-up and clean-up of camp; assists supervisor in maintaining cleanliness of the facility and restrooms; performs routine maintenance during break including checking restrooms and picking up trash, straightening chairs and tables and other duties as required

Responsible for the safety and welfare of campers on field trips to pool and various locations throughout the summer

Handles medical, safety, and severe weather emergencies per the procedures noted in the camp staff manual and during in-service training; completes reports including accident/incident reports as needed

Participates in in-service training as required; participates in weekly staff meetings

Organizes and maintains all equipment and supplies; performs regular visual inspections of camp equipment; notifies supervisor of defective equipment

Recommends and participates in parent conferences when necessary and maintains positive relationships with parents, campers, and staff


Minimum Training and Experience:

Previous experience in a camp environment preferred. Must possess or acquire the following certifications: Standard First Aid and CPR/AED (American Heart Association or American Red Cross). City of Chamblee will provide First Aid and CPR/AED training to selected applicants. Certifications must be valid through employment period. Successful completion of a pre-employment drug screening required. Must possess a valid GA Driver’s License. Must be available all weeks of camp, training and post-camp.

SUMMER CAMP DATES 2018:

CAMP TRAINING BEGINS MAY 29th

CAMP BEGINS JUNE 4th AND ENDS AUGUST 3rd

NO CAMP JULY 2nd – JULY 6th

CAMP HOURS: 7:30AM – 6:00PM, MONDAY-FRIDAY
