The City of Duluth, Georgia (pop. 27,000) is accepting applications for the positions of SUMMER DAY CAMP COUNSELORS for the Parks & Recreation Department.

These positions are responsible for planning and implementing recreational activities and providing supervision for assigned participants during the Parks and Recreation Summer Day Camp for children (age 4-12). These positions will generally work 25-30 hours per week and have an expected pay range of approximately $8.00 to $12.00 depending on assignment and qualifications (education, training, experience, and skills.) Hourly wages will be paid for all working time, as well as required orientation, training, and meetings held before, during, and after camps. Including pre-camp orientation and training, and post-camp cleanup, the period of employment is planned be May 16 – August 3, 2018. This date range is not a guarantee of employment for the entire time period, and any period of employment is governed by the “at-will” concept.

Qualifications & Requirements:

A High School diploma, state-issued GED, or equivalent is required, unless the applicant is still in High School. Employees under 16 years of age must have a work permit from their school. A background investigation and drug screening test is required prior to employment. Previous work experience in summer day camp or other recreational programs is preferred. Must be able to work under close supervision, and work with others involved in the coordination of job duties. Counselors should have enthusiasm, a sense of humor, patience, creativity, flexibility, organizational skills, and self-control. They should also be able to communicate clearly and effectively. They must occasionally lift, carry, bend, twist, and climb as they set-up, clean up equipment and facilities and while participating in recreational activities. They must establish and maintain effective working relationships with camp participants and their parents, co-workers, supervisors, and the general public.
