Christie Mills, CPRP, CTRS, Recreation Supervisor
I chose to become involved with GRPA because the value of creating professional relationships was impressed upon me early in my career. I was introduced to GRPA through my college professors, who emphasized the importance of associating with state and national professional organizations. Joining GRPA allowed me to have a sense of validation in my chosen profession, while ensuring security and trust in my peers. I was able to share ideas, ask for advice, volunteer to be a speaker or had the option to become a member of a state committee. This broadened my scope of relevant job opportunities, paired me with mentors in field, and expanded my knowledge base to help those I serve on a daily basis. Also, as a credentialed professional, GRPA consistently offers information about relevant seminars, training opportunities, or certification classes. I learned the importance of being able to list my association memberships on my resume, thus impressing upon potential employers my dedication to the advancement of the profession. Additionally, our association provides sources for scholarships, links to publications, and awards for persons achieving excellence in their field. GRPA invests back in its members, and I’m proud to be a part of this progressive association.
